Lee McDonald (1979) graduated from the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen in 2019, together with Kimball Gunnar Holth, Salim Bayri Langa and Henry Byrne. His major installations could be seen during Big Art 2020 and 2021. This summer his solo presentation was shown at De Bierumse School in Bierum. In 2021 he won an award in the category ‘Installation’ of The One Minutes International Competition 2021 in China.
In his work, Lee tests and investigates the response of mechanical processes on different materials. Think of found objects like, recycled engine parts and other used items. These objects are experimented with in such a way that everything eventually starts to move. Most of Lee’s works require audience participation and are thus interactive. Push a button, flip a switch or yell. Only then will you find out what the work of Lee McDonald does. Sounds exciting right?
